The chilly extraction plant is designed to process chilly (capsicum) pods to produce Paprika oleoresin and chilly powder of desired SHU (Scoville Heat Units) and ASTA (color value). The plant operates continuously, ensuring high efficiency and product consistency.

Process Description For Continuos Chilly Extraction Plant

The process begins with raw material preparation, where whole chillies are either ground directly or de-seeded and then ground to reduce particle size for further processing. During this step, seeds (A) are separated for solvent extraction, while the remaining powder is screened to achieve the desired SHU (Scoville Heat Units) and ASTA (color value) levels for direct use or blending. The separated seeds or intermediate powder may undergo pelletization, an important step that transforms the material into pellets suitable for extraction, thereby enhancing mass transfer and solvent penetration. In the extraction phase, both seeds and pellets are fed into an extractor, where solvents such as hexane or ethanol are used based on the intended product application and regulatory requirements. This results in two outputs: the extract (oleoresin solution), which is rich in color and pungency compounds, and the spent material, which consists of de-oiled meal or residue. The obtained extract is then subjected to an enrichment or concentration process to achieve the desired oleoresin purity, viscosity, and targeted SHU/ASTA values, making it suitable for final application or formulation.

Paprika Oleoresin (B or D): Concentrated extract used in food coloring, flavoring, and seasoning industries.

PF of Desired Cap (C): Processed fraction of desired capacity or specification.

Chilly Powder 40K SHU / 60 ASTA: Final powder product meeting culinary and industrial grade specifications.

Spent Material Handling

The spent material post-extraction can be blended back into powders for feed or composting or processed further based on plant configuration.

Safety standards: All extraction and solvent handling units are designed with flameproof fittings, nitrogen blanketing where required, and stringent temperature and pressure controls.

Grinding / Deseeding + Grinding:

Chillies are de-seeded to reduce pungency variation and ground to required fineness for effective solvent penetration.

Screening of Powder:

Ground powder is screened to separate coarse and fine fractions, directing desired SHU/ASTA powder for packing or further blending.

Pelletization:

Fine powders or seed fractions are pelleted to increase bulk density, reduce dust, and improve extractor loading characteristics.

Solvent Extraction:

Pellets and seeds are processed in the extractor. Solvent dissolves oleo-resin (capsaicinoids and carotenoids), forming a miscella (solvent + oleo-resin solution).

Distillation and Enrichment:

Miscella is distilled to separate the solvent, yielding enriched oleo-resin extract as the final product.

Powder Blending:

Remaining powder streams are blended to achieve specified SHU and ASTA standards for chilly powder production.
